Yesterday, 6th June 2024 marked a historic milestone with the successful completion of the 1st Somali Orthopedic Conference!
First and foremost, we thank the Almighty Allah for making this event possible.
The conference was opened by the State Minister of Health, H.E. Marian Mohamed Hussein emphasizing the importance of this scientific conference to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with Musculoskeletal injuries. The minister embraced the association’s activities and commitment to the advancement of Musculoskeletal health in Somalia.
The Theme of the Conference was ” Orthopaedic Resilience: Exploring Challenges & Opportunities in Low Resource Settings, Somalia”; The attendance was more than 170 Participants representing all fields of medicine and surgery with about 40 Orthopedic surgeons and residents.
About 50 Scientific papers were presented at three sessions of the conference covering Trauma, Infection, Arthroplasty, Spine and miscellaneous topics. Several key speakers Joined the conference virtually namely, a Professor from Turkey, a Senior Consultant spine surgeon from Sweden, AO Alliance managing Director and the Africa Medical Director for AO Alliance.

We are already looking forward to the 2nd Annual Somali Orthopedic Conference, which promises to be even more outstanding with numerous enriching sessions. We welcome everyone to join and share their ideas for another remarkable gathering on June 5-6th 2025.
